I’m a 40-year veteran of Israel, having moved here from the US in 1984. In addition to writing, I’m a bilingual Hebrew-to-English translator, and I follow the Israeli scene from up close. Israel—its triumphs and troughs, its glories and perplexities—has been my very intense concern for decades, starting already years before my aliyah. Along the way I’ve published hundreds of articles on the subject of Israel in US and Israeli venues. (My other pursuits include literary writing, with three novels and a short-story collection published to date, and piano playing.)

At present, of course, Israel is in an ongoing crisis, the most difficult of its brief history so far, and Israel on My Mind brings you up-to-date thoughts and commentary on this crisis from an immediate, much experienced participant-observer. I may sometimes explore other subjects, too, in writings on this site, although, inevitably, Israel is the thing most intensely on our minds at present.

Meanwhile I’m happy to say that my aliyah-focused memoir, Israel Odyssey: Coming of Age and Finding Peace in the Middle East, the first book to be published by God of the Desert Books, is now available in ebook format via Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The paperback will be available soon.

Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox. I aspire to write here four to six times per month, though lately it has decreased because the translation work has also been flowing in at high velocity.
